Talking animals fill Narnia, but they haven’t been filling the casting announcements for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia adaptation. We have our first reported Talking Beast casting.1

Narnia Web and What’s On Netflix have been going back and forth with breaking casting news. In What’s On Netflix’s confirmation of Narnia Web’s reporting of three new cast members, they reported a new cast member. Samatha Spiro will provide the voice for a beaver.

An English actor and singer, Spiro began her career on stage, winning two Laurence Olivier Awards, the U.K. equivalent of a Tony. In addition to numerous minor roles on smaller TV and film projects, Spiro has appeared on Game of Thrones and Doctor Who.

More appropriate to her new Narnia role, she had a recurring role on Sex Education, which featured Queen Jadis herself, Emma Mackey.

As Narnia Web stated, having the voice actor for a beaver as the first to be revealed is appropriate for The Magician’s Nephew, as beavers are the first animals to whom Aslan gives the ability to speak in the book.

As of now, What’s On Netflix has the confirmed cast as:

  • Emma Mackey as Queen Jadis

  • David McKenna as Digory Kirke

  • Beatrice Campbell as Polly Plummer

  • Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew

  • Carey Mulligan as Mabel Kirke

  • Tom Bonington as Mr. Potts

  • Susan Wokoma as TBA

  • Gerard Monaco as TBA

  • James Murray as TBA

  • Samantha Spiro as a beaver

They are also reporting that Samuel Marshall-Blake has also been attached to the movie.

Not Safe But Good

C.S. Lewis quote of the week

I am rather sick of the modern assumption that, for all events, ‘WE,’ the people, are never responsible: it is always our rulers, or ancestors, or parents, or education, or anybody but precious ‘US,’ WE are apparently perfect and blameless. Don’t you believe it.
