The Door Jam is a place to squeeze in articles about C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, their work, adaptations of their fantasy worlds, news from other franchises, and interesting articles. Unless otherwise stated, I’m not endorsing (or criticizing) any of these but merely sharing them with you.

To start the new year, let’s look at the latest on Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Narnia adaptation.

While Gerwig’s Narnia production took a few weeks off for Christmas, shooting is back up and running as of yesterday. NarniaWeb had some cast interviews and updates on the filming schedule.

Meanwhile, anticipation continues to build for the project. Collider ranked Magician’s Nephew as their most anticipated Netflix movie of 2026. MovieWeb dubbed the project as 2026’s most exciting fantasy adaptation.

Speaking to E! News, the White Witch herself, Emma Mackey, said she hadn’t yet spoken with the previous White Witch herself, Tilda Swinton. When asked about consulting Swinton for tips on playing the iconic villain, Mackey said:

“No, I didn't. Different vibe. I mean, Tilda [is my] hero, [but] no, no, we didn't [speak]. I didn't reach out.”

While this is further indication that Gerwig’s adaptation will be different, it is also the case that the “vibe” for the Jadis character is different even in the books from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to The Magician’s Nephew.

Not Safe But Good

C.S. Lewis quote of the week

We are told that Christ was killed for us, that His death has washed out our sins, and that by dying He has disabled death itself. That is the formula. That is Christianity. That is what has to be believed.

The Problem of Printers

Bad but unfortunately real C.S. Lewis book covers

On the positive side, there’s definitely no AI art involved with this cover. On the other hand, there’s definitely no art involved at all.
