Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ to Be Explored in Behind-the-Scenes Book

Before Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew hits the screens, the story behind the movie will be hitting the pages. A veteran film critic and author will release a book based on the production of Greta Gerwig’s adaptation, according to NarniaWeb.
The twists and turns of making this movie has certainly been a rollercoaster ride for Narnia fans. I will be fascinated to read a behind-the-scenes look at all that happened to bring this movie to us.
The book will be written by Tom Shone. He was the film critic for the Sunday Times in the U.K. and has written for numerous publications including Vogue, The New York Times, The Guardian, and The New Yorker.
He is also the author of several books about movies. Most have been focused as retrospectives or explorations of filmmakers full work. I’m especially interested in The Nolan Variations: The Movies, Mysteries, and Marvels of Christoper Nolan.
Perhaps more relevant to this project, Shone wrote The Irishman: The Making of the Movie, which features photographs and information about Martin Scorsese’s Netflix film. It’s seems to serve as a table book and collector’s item.
Earlier this year, NarniaWeb learned that Shone spent time on the set during 2025.
Shone also happens to love the Narnia books. Telling The Creative Adventure that his life was “altered” after reading the series. “I just wanted to live in that world,” he told the podcast in 2023.
Also, as a random aside, I love that Shone had a blogspot site that he kept running for over a decade (2008-2019). As a former blogspot blogger myself, I appreciate the dedication.
There, among other things, you can discover that Gerwig’s Lady Bird was his second favorite film of 2017.
