While we are still months away from the February 2027 theatrical release of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, Director Greta Gerwig has already shown a rough cut test screening of the film in New Jersey, according to Jordan Ruimy at World of Reel.

The reporting contained very little information about the film itself outside of this:

One interesting creative choice: despite the story being set in the 1950s, Gerwig reportedly uses rock music throughout the film. The soundtrack is intentionally anachronistic, echoing the approach Sofia Coppola took in “Marie Antoinette,” where modern music was used to create a contemporary emotional connection with a period setting.

In their reporting, NarniaWeb confirmed at least two test screenings: one in New York and one in New Jersey. They also note that these screenings are not always the best indication of what will be in the final film, according to both Ruimy and Gerwig herself.

Ruimy recently wrote about how several highly acclaimed movies had early screenings that left audiences confused and underwhelmed, but that feedback led to a better final product.

In an interview with Deadline, Gerwig said screenings of her previous film allowed her to hear patterns in the comments from audiences to know if changes were needed.

There’s no word yet on whether any patterns have emerged from Narnia test screenings.

C.S. Lewis quote of the week

I think that if God forgives us we must forgive ourselves. Otherwise it is almost like setting up ourselves as a higher tribunal than Him.
